These days I’ve been all about versatility and re-using items in my closet, which is why I’m going to keep urging you, my readers to invest in a few key pieces over time. Another such item is a classic sheath dress, this dress is meant to fit the body like a glove and highlights all your curves the right way, it essentially falls right above the knees or at the lower thigh region. The sheath dress tends to looks good on the more athletic and curvaceous type of women. However, if on the plumper side, you should probably stay away from the more clingier fabrics.

What I absolutely love about this knit solid colour dress we’ve given Kalayni is how easy it is to actually accessorize it the way we want to. Since we’re currently big on layered necklaces we kept it simple and used gold, you could also consider using a brighter bolder statement pieces just the way you like and whichever way reflects your personality best. In case you aren’t big on statement jewelry you could, invest in a printed sheath dress instead! A fun way to make this look fresh is to wear it with shirts, either over the dress or under it, or in this case a nice oversized structured jacket made out of soft balmy cotton, perfect for the summers as well!! Exactly something I would wear and walk out of the house! And in the cold winters, I’d wear a massive snuggly scarf or snood. Now because I’m a sneaker girl, I’d paired this look with slip-ons and a nice tote bag – just to give you an idea of an on the go suggestion. However you could wear this with heels in the night and sandals in the day 🙂

Let’s talk about the versatility of a shift dress how it is an absolute closet essential in today’s post. Firstly, The ‘Shift Dress’ is called so because a) it’s easy breezy to move about in and b) it reflects the shift in culture around the time it emerged into the fashion foreground. Over the years the shift dress has been reinvented to work with current times, but to be specific it hung from the shoulders in a straight or a-line cut, was generally sleeveless and the length hit right above the knee -retaining that 100% cuteness level. Just to be on top of things – a shift dress is meant to show off your arms and legs making you look taller, and is not figure hugging by nature. But a good a-line is one that makes you appear slimmer, only buy them if they aren’t pulling on parts of your body, these also help mask broad hips and if you have a slim waist belt it up to draw attention to the best parts of your body.

Since you now see how versatile the dress is and how it can be worn in just about any season, I’m going to leave you with tips on how to change it up & accessorizing this one. During the winter you can layer it on a white shirt or a printed shirt/blouse deepening on the colour and print of your dress. You could also layer with light cardigans, blazers or leather jackets. Accessories can make & break this look, stick to bright colours to make a statement and you could also go with chunky pieces of jewelry deepening on the occasion and mood. To keep warm you could also pair this dress with leggings and knee-high socks and boots. You can do just about anything in terms of shoes, except for flip-flops that can totally ruin the look. Pair this dress with bold flatworms in bright colours, white sneakers would look amazing on this, chunky heels if you’re going to a party, or open toed sandals to brunch and ballet flats if you’re on your way to work. The possibilities are endless with this one.
